‘Have fun and relax!’

-Bato Dugarshapov

Wise words from one of our current painting masters. Discovering Bato’s work and how freely he uses color has made me curious about painting. He truly seems to enjoy the whole process and it shows in the spirit of his art. His work is remarkable...enticing me to join in the fun...and let’s be honest, the hard brain work of it, too!

Another source of inspiration for me is Beatrice Wood, and other women creatives like her, who have painted well into their senior years. For Beatrice that was past 100!  With that in mind, beginning to paint at fifty, as I have, is not too late! How great to be at the start of something new, with a big dream. If you would like to follow along on my creative journey, please follow me on instagram.

When I teach art, I ask my students to look around and be a... 'Noticer.' EVERYTHING we all see has been imagined and created by someone! Imagine that?

Creativity is perhaps one of the most essential of all endeavors, in my humble, bossy opinion. I feel incredibly privileged to have the time to explore the art of Painting and respond to what’s happening in my mind’s eye with brush to canvas. What an exciting mysterious cooperation I find this to be!!

I have memories of looking out from my crib at my bedroom...observing everything. I could create a Mood Board and scale a floor plan, as well as tell you the material and construction of the curtains and other elements: red Toile with brass rings for the curtain rod and white pom poms for trim. I believe ART in me was part of the plan from the beginning.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art from Westmont College, I ventured down the path of residential design with additional studies at UC Santa Barbara Extension. I wasn't quite so brave in my younger years; I chose the safe route. This was familiar territory because I had grown up around construction all my life. On top of that, Todd, my sweetie husband is a builder! Life happens and babies are born and painting is paused. Actually...painting never happened, until now.

About ten years ago I started dreaming about painting...repeatedly. Hello! In the series ‘Painting the love of God’ I am quite literally painting my dreams. The images are not literal, rather they are abstract with layers and shapes meant to draw you in to experience something within yourself. They are meant for you to experience intimately, or in a group setting ...to stir your heart and bring to you what’s needed in love and shalom. I would love to make these visual interpretations of the ‘Love of God’ accessible to as many people as possible. There will be twelve in the series. I feel so excited to share this body of work with you!

Other collections of paintings, like the Seasonal groups, (link)  tap into my desire for decorating Home, or any space, with a fresh look for the rhythms of the calendar year. Giclees make this more accessible for those of us with a modest art budget. Some series are ideas that develop over time, with unlimited potential! I can’t paint fast enough to keep up with my ideas for all the captivating cityscapes in the world! So, I suppose, one of my hopes with this website is that I would continue to add to each genre of work. Suggestions open!

Be sure to read about the quality of this particular Giclee printing process in the About Giclee section.

If you are interested in design and perhaps other connecting points, check out the BLAHG section that’s intended to be helpful to you as you create your surroundings and join me in this fun.

Thank you for taking the time to read this section of the website, thank you for visiting this website and if you choose to purchase a giclee I am very grateful-thank you! I want to say that NONE of this would be possible without the ever encouraging support and help of family and friends...embarrassing riches. You know who you are!

                                                                                 With Gratitude,

                                                                                                     Heather

My Daughter Gracie

This is my very talented daughter, Gracie Campbell, she has contributed many pieces that are in the animal series. She is a farmer and spends time with an assortment of animals on a daily basis. She reveals that how the eyes are painted is crucial in capturing the essence of each animal’s personality...after all, aren’t eyes the window to the soul?
